One of the Ways We Empower is through hands-on community-oriented Impact Projects. Through action and mobilization, the young leaders that we work with in South Thornton can make a positive impact throughout the community for everyone to benefit, all the while gaining real-world project experience and professional development.

Knowledge and teachings have been conveyed differently around the world. Colonization has left generational damage to traditions of Indigenous people's ways of teaching, and deconstructing this is exactly what Elizabeth Standing Bear aims to do. Armed with a deep understanding of her culture and Indigenous teaching traditions, we are working with Elizabeth, Andres Martinez (teacher at THS), as well administration at Thornton High School to 'decolonize the classroom' by expanding civics and identities classes. Decolonizing the classroom puts students at the forefront of learning and empowers students in the learning space. We believe this is a critical way that Thornton High School can better serve not only its Indigenous ancestry students, but all students.
